This gives the patient full choice over the preferred storage type such as USB flash device, smartphone, smart watch, cloud storage or any other future device.

• The patient receives full sovereignty over personal health data.
• The patient can decide if sensitive data like medical imaging data, full patient records or even genomic data are de-centrally stored offline or centrally stored in the cloud (with all its risks and dangers, like data loss, unintended analysis, artificial intelligence, hacking).
• Plug-and-play ensures easy integration without any installation and training effort.
• Variable commercialization models such as buying the full solution, renting it with monthly costs or pay-per-use models (known from printer) fit to any purpose.

Supplementing cloud solutions

Though the cloud seems to be advantageous at a first glance, there are benefits of offline storage solutions that cannot be achieved with any cloud solution. 

• An offline flash device belongs to the patient and contains not only one single study or examination result but the full history of computed tomography, treatments and medical reports without limitation to size or storage period. 
• It is widely unknown that in many instances of personal health treatments only certain parts of the data that substantiate the diagnostic are stored for more than several month and that data in general is only stored for a maximum of 10 years. 
• Even with the introduction of the EHDS where data is collected from any health care provider in any geographic area the full history will not be available. 
• EHDS will offer limited storage capacities as the arising costs for storage environments will contradict the climate goals of the European Union due to high energy and water consumption of the cloud providers.
